If you've had a particularly bad attack of Whitespot and can't solve it, read on. Although only a short article I am putting it in this list as it's a constant problem and it could be very useful if you get this aggressive one.... Bill's report..... "I had a problem with my tanks last year that was put down to 'white spot'. This was thought to be a new strain that has affected many fishkeepers - some people have called it 'Singapore White Spot'. It is fast acting and will wipe out most fish in the tank in a couple of days. Nothing seems to cure it because it is so fast acting. Anyway, I had another bout of it a couple of weeks ago, but took one of the fish down to A-Z Aquatics (see "Aquatic Centres" page) in Crewe. (Peter Bower is one of the partners there and is also a member of NWCG). He kindly arranged to do a fish scrape for me and found it was Costia and White-spot. His recommendation was to use.. I used this and I managed to save most of the fish stock. On further discussion with him, he was telling me that about 70% of the fish he is currently importing from the "Far East" have been found to have Costia, but they have very good quarantine facilities and are able to spot it before putting their fish out for sale. The White-spot seems to be a secondary thing, but obviously much more noticeable. I now think that this is what I had in my system last year". ![]() Text; Bill Jones |
